Week #4: Re-hardening the basics

<6 February Monday>

- Ashley gave tips

- grabbing the string.

- press the strings hard (I'm still kind of weak at that).

- press the strings right next to the fret! (that really helped :))

- Andy guitar: ( 10 videos) - played from 8:00pm to 9:00pm after school

* E major (reviewed)

* A major (reviewed) (learned: start from the 5th string to make it sound better)

* Strumming (beat)

* Switching between E and A major

*D major

* Switching between E, A, and D major

- What I am going to buy:

* Capo

* Switch my guitar strings ( because everyone highly recommended me to do so)

<7 February Tuesday>

- I could not play because I was busy after moving to a new home.

<8 February Wednesday>

I learned from Siyong after lunch in the auditorium.

He advised...

- for beginners, mastering chords are essential

-he could teach me the fingerstyle after I master the chords!

- 벚꽃엔딩(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXV7dfvSefo) is a good song to master for a beginner.

- Change the string to the

- To learn from guitar scores (Guitar Pro 5)

He taught...

- When playing the chords, there are certain chords that you want to avoid stringing such as

a) For E chord, you can string the whole 6 strings

b) For A chord, you'd like to avoid stringing the 1st string because it can sound weird because E string is on the top

c) For D chord, avoid playing the top 2 strings.

d) How to play C chord. How to grab C chord.

<9 February Thursday>

I managed to play sometimes in school. I do think that my guitar string MUST be changed.

I couldn't play when I got home because I was busy and tired.

REFLECTION:

I can notice that learning a different hobby can really create a good community. Through the 20% time, i learned from SiYong who does 20% time for teaching guitar. He was very kind and really considered seriously for what I should learn.

I am satisfied when I can feel the hardened skin parts of my fingers after playing the guitar. Although Ashley said my fingers are still soft, I can feel this.. numbness.

I'm really jealous of people who play guitar well. Especially during homeroom, the boys in our class just strum off the beautiful sounds with freedom! How I'd like to do that. I still have to peak towards the fingers and the string when I play the chords. But I do think guitar is an instrument that does not require much complexity, unlike Piano.

I think for this week, I've been slowing my pace, but not in a lazy mode. My guitar skills barely enhanced compared to last week. But I think my time management skill increased.

Last week playing guitar time was part of a "Studying time" (since I'm learning) instead of a "Free time"

But this week, I managed to spend my time as a free time (which seems efficient)

And I tried to use my spare time (like during Lunch or homeroom) to play guitar instead of just opening up my homework book and chatting. I didn't get to play that much (because I only remember like 4 chords) but putting a guitar on my laps are getting familiar. I need to hug this blue object whenever possible.

I'm proud of myself this week. But what I do need to work on next week is to get the right tools for my guitar: strings and capo. I'm still quite lazy to go buy the props I need. So I couldn't play "I'm Yours" because I need capo to play that.

:)))) I am very happy that we all get to do the 20% blog. I spend my rest of the spare time by looking through the 20% project the other students have done. I haven't written the comments down yet..but I will, soon. You guys are all so amazing! :) Have a nice weekend
